CIS CORNER: GEE-GEES LINEMAN SUFFERS SETBACK

Ottawa Gee-Gees O-lineman Kyle Kirkwood has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament at the B.C. Lions training camp. That's unfortunate for Kirkwood. The Sudbury Star article, notes that knee surgery and rehab could keep Kirkwood from returning to the U of O for a fifth season this fall.

This really sucks. As someone with two zippers down each side of my right knee, though, I can tell you that knee injuries are a sad fact of life in football. Now comes the moment where he has to decide if he has had enough, or wants one more shot. If he rehabs his brains out, he might get back in time for the second half of the CIS season, or he can just get himself ready to take another shot at a CFL camp in '08. Those first few days after the injury, though, your spirits are lower than whale droppings -- I feel for the guy.
