CIS CORNER: CRADDOCK GOES WEST

Couple quick CIS notes this p.m.:

  • Barnaby Craddock is apparently a B.C. boy at heart and the initals aren't for "Brandon coach." (Groan away.) The CIS men's basketball coach of the year is returning to his home province as coach of the Fraser Valley Cascades, leaving the Brandon Bobcats, who lost by just three points to Carleton in the national championship game in March.

What happened to cause a coach to leave a program that went 30-4 last season to join one that went 7-18? Theorize away, but get a cool drink first. It's hot out today.

(UPDATE: Something that didn't click at first — does this cue up a Jerry Hemmings coaching comeback at BU? Apparently, he's stll around.)
  • Golden Gaels striker (and Lisgar Collegiate alumna) Eilish McConville is part of a strong Ottawa-area contingent on Canada's women's soccer team for the FISU Games. Ottawa Gee-Gees coach Steve Johnson, goalkeeper Katarina Vulic and defenders Wendy Donaldson and Alex Perisichino were also selected; the U of O is one of two schools with three players named. A few basketball players will be going to Thailand in August as well.
  • New look: Carleton has announced a partnership with Russell Athletic Canada, which might mean new unis for some Ravens teams next season.
