I deeply regret that this matter between myself and Steelback Brewery president and CEO Frank D'Angelo has reached this point and I apologize to Frank D'Angelo if he was offended or suffered any inconvenience as a result of writings at Out of Left Field.
Mr. D'Angelo is a public figure, but it is possible to state one’s opinion in a respectful manner without crossing the line into being shrill or derogatory. That's a quality this blog strives toward each and every day. In hindsight, I realize some characterizations of Mr. D'Angelo crossed a line, although it was not intentional. For this, I apologize.
On balance, Frank has done some positive things. He raises money for breast cancer research, for Ronald McDonald House and a long list of other charities, he's performed for Canadian soldiers returning from Afghanistan and landed a five-year $20-million Cdn deal for the naming rights to the big summer auto race, the Steelback Grand Prix of Toronto 2007. No one does that without having something good going for him.
To the readers: Thank you for your support during the past month. It's been awesome. This wasn’t a decision taken lightly, but the reality is no writer wants her or his name in the public spotlight for something of this nature. A reasonable solution has been reached and we can get back to doing what we enjoy, which is talking about sports in a way that’s potentially witty, sometimes irreverent and every so often, even grammatical.

Bullies never win--except in Canada.
Man this was painful to read. I just keep seeing this image of an American POW reading a statement, with a Vietcong poking a bayonet in his back if he doesn't read with the proper enthusiasm.
Can't you say that almost any universally hated public figure has "done some positive things"?
May I also say that a certain public figure whose name I shall not recite is certainly making a strong case for the "Biggest Douche in the Universe" award.
I also love that I can't be sued for defamation if I never mention somebody's name.
Major agreement with the comments before me. It just goes to show that you've got no freedoms unless you've got money. And if people think that getting their lawyers to force good things to be said about them makes it true or makes people believe them, they're sorely mistaken.
A big, prominent middle finger pointed towards a certain person (not you, Neate) whose name I again shall not specify.
yeah ok but he smells really bad (allegedly)
LOL
Neate: a little something to help the shit sandwich Frankie fed you slide down a bit easier:
You can always show up at a Steelback 24 (ahem) "concert" and boo them. ;-)
And for the Record; Frank is still a tasteless superficial narcissistic douche bag....one that pretends to care about women but exploits them in his beer commercials, or picks up the odd sexual assault charge showing his respect for women.
Rock on Neate...your a bigger man that D'angelo will ever be.
