Veteran outfielder Pedro Swann, as any doofus could have guessed, has been recalled from the R-Phils now that Ron Calloway has decided to retire from baseball.
The Lynx were mostly just set decoration for cancer survivor Jon Lester's big comeback start tonight, with the Paw Sox rolling to a 4-0 one-hit shutout (boxscore, play-by-play). The tall foreheads in the Boston organization had Lester on a 50-55 pitch count due to the cramping in his prized left arm that he suffered in his last start, so he didn't get the win after giving up just a double to Joe Thurston in his three-plus innings.
The upshot for the Lynx (19-20), who throw J.D. Durbin (0-3, 6.89, 1.85 WHIP) vs. ex-Royal Runelvys Hernandez (0-2, 2.31, 1.07 WHIP) on Sunday afternoon, is they are only five games back in the IL North. A long win streak -- which might be a tough order with Brian Mazone gone and Matt Childers on the DL -- would shoot them right into contention.
And no, we never get tired of saying Pedro Swann is one of baseball's longest-tenured Delawareans, especially because the e and the a together look neat.
