LYNX NOT SO FABIO

If the Lynx had Fabio Castro — currently down in Double-A — it might have turned out differently in tonight's come-from-ahead 12-8 defeat (boxscore, play-by-play) in Charlotte.

Castro, not Anderson Garcia (0-1), who was tagged for six runs, a pair of big flies and the loss in in the seventh inning to take the loss, might have been the first choice to come in and protect a seventh-inning lead since Matt Smith, Kane Davis, et al., had been used in Thursday's game. Instead, Garcia got racked big-time, and the Lynx — all together now — ended up slipping back to the .500 mark.

The reliever's namesake, starter Jason Anderson, who lasted three innings and gave up five runs, didn't have so great a night either, meaning the bullpen ended up being extended for the second straight night. It's like an inexorable baseball law that you seldom win two games in a row where the starting pitcher doesn't hang in for five innings, so it was kismet that Garcia ended up getting racked big-time by the Charlotte hitters, including Ryan Sweeney, who went 5-for-5.

It was a real shame for John Ennis not to end up with the win after chucking three scoreless innings to hold down the fort (and shave his ERA to 0.43) and for the Lynx to go down to defeat after putting up eight runs. Jason Jaramillo accounted for half the output, tripling in two and scoring in the first, then walking ahead of Lou Collier's go-ahead homer in the fifth. If they'd had Castro, though, it might have been different.

Bubba Nelson hasn't been used since joining the team Thursday, so one would assume he might be earmarked for starting duty.

That's two dingers on the year for Lou — tying him for the team lead. Seriously.

Chris Coste demoted to AA. What's up with that? You can't persuade me that Coste isn't a better hitter than Joey Hammond. I've heard that the Phillies are pissed at Coste, maybe there's somethin to that.
