LYNX: LONG WAY HOME AFTER TOUGH LOSS

The veteran experience that the Lynx have in spades will be needed to lighten the mood on the long trip home tonight. Two of the young up-and-comers, setup man Joe Bisenius and catcher Jason Jaramillo, had rough times in today's 15-10 loss (boxscore, play-by-play) in Indianapolis.

It happens for all relievers. Bisenius came in to protect an 8-6 advantage on one of those no-lead-is-safe days. The wind was blowing out in a park where it's only 320 feet down both lines. He gave up back-to-back homers to Indy's Chris Aguila and Michael Ryan. With two out and one on, Humberto Cota -- who also drew a key base on balls in Indy's come-from-behind win on Sunday -- worked a walk. Rajai Davis followed with a go-ahead two-run double and tacked on another run when he stole third and scooted home when Jaramillo's throw went into left field. Just like that, Bisenius was staring at a five-run seventh inning and the Lynx were left with a sub-.500 record (5-6) on their 10-day road trip.

It's all in how you handle it as a ballplayer. You have to imagine that Bisenius losing his composure and losing track of the runner allowed Davis to light out for third base on that play. Indianapolis runs a lot, but stealing third with two out and league-leading hitter Brian Bixler (who went 4-for-5 to jack his average to .363) up to bat seems like a bit of a low-percentage play.

Indianapolis does this to a lot of teams. They were already leading the IL in runs scored and on-base percentage before today's 15-run, 20-hit output, giving them the league's best offence despite having hit fewer homers than everyone except Ottawa.

Highlights for the Lynx: Lou Collier was named IL batter of the week after going 11-for-21 with six RBI over a recent stretch. In today's game, Dusty Wathan was 4-for-5 (Gary Burnham once again did not start vs. a lefty), Jaramillo had a couple RBI hitting out of the 5-hole and Chris Roberson hit a leadoff homer, his first big fly of the season. That brings the Lynx up to five homers on the year -- all on the road.
