LYNX: LEFT-HANDED COMPLIMENT ON A LONG DAY

Left-hander Eude Brito throwing strikes on 35 of his 50 pitches in his first start for the Lynx would seem to be the ray of sunshine, since the lads lost 11-3 (boxscore, play-by-play) in the seventh vs. the Durham Bulls.

Brito left down 4-1. Long story short, he threw strikes, but in his first attempt to go longer than two innings in a game this season, he was missing the extra-fine touch a starting pitcher needs and he got hit.

It was a weird game. Durham right-hander Jeff Niemann (4-3, 3.84) got the win but needed 83 pitches to get through the first four innings and barely lasted long enough to qualify for the W. (As it was, Niemann got a 10-pitch fifth and his teammates counted three runs off Joe Bisenius in the home half to break the game open, allowing him to do his five-and-fly.)

The Lynx are 2-5 on their road trip with one game left before they come home to face a strong Richmond club at the same time the Senators are hosting the Stanley Cup final and commanding 99.9% of the media attention.

Durham hit four home runs today, which coupled with the four they hit Monday, means they've gone yard more times in this series (eight) than the Lynx have all season (seven). Ouch. This team can't buy a break.

(Ottawa Lynx Blog has a good take on what it means that the Lynx are carrying three catchers, none of whom are named Chris Coste.)
