Brennan King keeping his chin up after going hitless his first four times up helped the Lynx rally
for tonight's extra-inning 5-4 comeback win (boxscore, play-by-play) vs. PawSox closer Mike Burns (0-3).
The Lynx were down to their last out in the ninth, when King came up, dragging an oh-fer with three strikeouts to boot, including a whiff in the third with two on and nobody out that had cost the Lynx a chance to stretch an early 2-0 lead. (Pawtucket promptly tied the game off Zack Segovia in the following inning.) Instead of being a mope about it, King got a RBI single off Burns to keep the game going and scored the tying run on hits by Jim Rushford and Jason Jaramillo, helping Ottawa (21-20) get above .500 heading into Tuesday's 11:05 a.m. getaway day game.
Kane Davis (1-1) got the W after coming in to retire Joe McEwing to leave the bases loaded in the PawSox 10th. Danny Sandoval (3-for-4) singled and came around to score the winning run. So it was a good night for the hitters. The Lynx got those four straight two-out hits in the ninth off Burns (0-3). Every starter hit safely except for Chris Roberson, whose sac bunt set up Lou Collier's game-winning hit in the 10th.
Scarborough's George Kottaras, the hotshot PawSox catcher who came to the Red Sox organization in the David Wells deal last August, was 3-for-5 tonight. That bumped his average up to .202, above the dreaded Mendoza Line.
The Lynx send righty Heath Totten (1-1, 2.77, 1.23 WHIP) out vs. lefty Abe Alvarez (2-3, 5.58, 1.47) for today's 11:05 getaway day game.
