Today's 5-3 loss (boxscore, play-by-play) in Indianapolis pointed up the dilemma the Lynx will have now that veteran catcher-corner infielder Chris Coste has his wish of being back in the bigger leagues, if only for a short time.
Coste is going up to the Phillies (while reigning National League MVP Ryan Howard rehabs his strained quad) right as the Lynx (following tomorrow's game) begin a stretch of 18 straight games against American League affiliates where they'll have a DH in the lineup. Trouble is, he's a righty hitter and the Lynx are going into a stretch where they'll have more plate appearances to spread around, but their best options at the corner and DH spots are all lefties: Gary Burnham, Ron Calloway, Lou Collier and Jim Rushford.
So today, with no DH and no Coste vs. Indy lefty Michael Tejera, it worked out that righty Dusty Wathanwas in the lineup to provide some balance, while Burnham was limited to pinch-hitting duty.
Of the other five regulars, Brennan King (who had a homer and two RBI today for a team-high 22 on the year) is the only right-handed hitter. Indianapolis was also able to intentionally walk him at one point to get a lefty-lefty matchup.
Carlos Leon went 2-for-4 after replacing Chris Roberson as the leadoff man and centre-fielder. Wonder what's up with that.
