KICKED IN THE SHORT PANTS, VOL. 2

Leo Rautins and Fred Nykamp are a topic du jour today;

Dave Feschuk of the Toronto Star lets Nykamp have it; Sun Media's own Steve Buffery details how Rautins is up to his ass in allligators, especially with Argentine tournament organizers; Mike Waters of the Syracuse Post-Standard has a generally positive preview that is much longer than anything you would expect to read in an American newspaper about a Canadian national team coach.

Worth noting is Buffery's reference to a "lack of funding (from both the government and private sectors.)" Whatever the reason, it's just not trendy for big business and the politicians to give Canadian basketball support, although as we saw yesterday it's hardly the only sport in this country that gets this kind of treatment.

(UPDATE: A greater mind, Howard Bloom, pointed this out on an e-mail list we belong to: As a business Canadian basketball is in worse shape than it was before the NBA arrived in Canada. Figure that out.)
