HIP TO SUNDIN'S SITUATION

Consider this the greatest sports shocker to happen in Toronto since the last time the Hamilton Tiger-Cats beat the Argos at the Rogers Centre: Mats Sundin doesn't need hip surgery, contrary to what we all read. That means Maple Leafs GM John Ferguson Jr. was right about something.

For some of the haters, this challenges their general point of view toward, well, everything.

I don't consider myself a hater, but as a non-Leafs fan it is always amusing to see how Leaf Nation thinks the whole world revolves around the condition of their aging captain's hip. Really, given the salary cap bite Sundin will consume under a new contract, you have to ask yourself if the Leafs might not be just as well off shedding his salary, and using that money to find some younger help in the free agent market.

Well, some Leafs fans think he's the saviour, and some ask, "what has he ever done?" Both opinions are wrong.
