Seriously, after that Vancouver-Dallas four-overtimer (which Mirtle liveblogged), we needed some nice, fairly sedate, predictable hockey on Day 2.
The sedate (well, except for a tussle at the end)... Red Wings 4 Flames 1 (Detroit leads 1-0): Typical Red Wings hockey, but the Calgary call stands.
The predictable... Sabres 4 Islanders 1 (Buffalo leads 1-0): Rick DiPietro to the rescue! Stop laughing!
The straightforward... Devils 4 Lightning 3 (New Jersey leads 1-0): Tampa, the NHL's closest analogue to a beer-league team (they have two lines, three D and dodgy goaltending) had the Devils playing their game but still lost. The Big Three will probably keep this from being a sweep, like they did last year vs. the Senators.
Let's get physical... on second thought, let's not... Rangers 4 Thrashers 3 (New York leads 1-0): Georgia's been waiting 27 years to get another crack at the Rangers in the playoffs. OK, so they haven't. Atlanta didn't play with a ton of jam -- it earned only two power plays.
That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.

Wade D. looked like he played pretty well for the Islanders. The Islanders generated precisely one shot on goal in the first, and were outshot 22-10 after two. The fact that they were only down by a goal after 40 minutes is pretty remarkable. Putting in a cold Rick DiPietro is hardly going to change the dynamic of this Bambi vs. Godzilla series - didn't they learn from the Habs' mistake of playing a cold Huet on the last night of the regular season? Sabres in three and a half. (I'm thinking the Islanders might just forfeit halfway through game four.)
