The Lynx, who probably stranded more runners on base than their opponent in every game during their season-opener 2-5 road swing through upstate New York, finally got a big two-out hit: Chris Coste's two-run double in the first got it started in a 4-3 win (box, play-by-play ) over the Syracuse Chiefs. Shortstop Danny Sandoval went 2-for-3 out of the 9-hole and both hits factored in scoring innings, giving Matt Childers (five hits over five innings) his first win of '07.
The Lynx stranded eight runners in the first game, a 4-0 loss (box, play-by-play). Zack Segovia pitched a quote, unquote complete game in the 7-inning contest, but John-Ford Griffin and Mike Vento reached him for two-run homers.
The Lynx had some quality starts from Childers, J.A. Happ and Brian Mazone during the trip, despite the cold weather. Their luck should even out in Ottawa.
This was originally a four-game set, but a big storm is headed for The 'Cuse, so the series was reduced to today's doubleheader. The Lynx are idle until the home opener Tuesday vs. Charlotte, the White Sox's Triple-A club.
For the Jays fans: Russ Adams is hitting .182 and has already made three errors this season.
