- Might be a good time to fire the general manager: Out of nearly 280 respondents to a Kingston Whig-Standard poll, only 10 -- ten! -- approved of Frontenacs GM-for-life Larry Mavety letting Bobby Hughes back "with open arms" after he quit the team during the playoffs. That figure could have also been inflated by Frontenacs staffers voting vet.
Two hundred and twenty, almost 80%, said Hughes should have been "sent packing." - Unlike the Fronts, Kingston's Laura Martindale is no underachiever -- Martindale, a defenceman who plays club hockey with the Ottawa Jr. Raiders and helped Team Ontario win a gold medal at the Canada Games, is headed to Princeton this fall. Well-done.
- Three Queen's Golden Gaels, all from the Kingston area, are playing in the CIS East-West bowl: wideout Scott Valberg and fullback Mike Giffin of Kingston on the offensive side of the ball, and d-end Neil Puffer of Hartington from the "dark side."
