CIS CORNER: VALIANT VOLLEYBALL EFFORT

Items of notes for athletes and teams of interest from the 613:
  • VOLLEYBALL: Close but no cigar for the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the CIS women's volleyball nationals in Calgary. Despite 11 points from Joanie Beauregard-Veillette and 10 from all-Canadian Christine Lamey, the Laval Rouge et Or advanced with a four-set victory.

The Queen's Golden Gaels are trying to avoid playing kingmakers at the men's nationals. The Kingston Whig-Standard notes that whoever has beaten coach Brenda Willis' Gaels in their three prior trips to nationals has gone on to win the whole schebangabang. Hopefully none of the UBC Thunderbirds players who face Queen's and all-Canadian setter Devon Miller in a quarter-final today read that article!
  • HOOPS: Ottawa's Algonquin Thunder and Kingston's St. Lawrence Vikings men's and women's team are all in the semis (neither plays each other) today at their respective Ontario Colleges Athletic Association championships. The women's tourney is at Algonquin; St. Lawrence plays Seneca in the first semi at 6, followed by Algoma vs. Algonquin. Hey, very alliterative.

That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
