CIS CORNER: NO COACH JOE SHOW IN CAPITAL

Revenge-minded Renegades backers will have to wait before warming up their lungs: The scheduler for Ontario University Athletics football does not have Joe Paopao making a return to the capital this fall.

That's the hazard of a 10-team conference with an 8-game season: The defending Yates Cup champion Gee-Gees won't play the Waterloo Warriors, who recently added Coach Joe and his closet full of Hawaiian shirts and trick plays to their coaching staff. However, the Warriors will make one appearance in The 613 this fall -- they're Queen's Homecoming opponent on Oct. 13. Take the 416 to the 401, get off at the Sir John A. Macdonald Blvd. exit and go south, you can't miss it, if you see the old Prison For Women site, you've gone too far.

Scheduling highlights for our Queen's Golden Gaels:

Sept. 3 at Western: Mentioned this before — Greg Marshall gets to start his head coaching career with the Mustangs by losing to the Gaels. Suh-weet.
• Sept. 15 vs. McMaster, Sept. 22 at Windsor, Sept. 29 vs. Laurier:
Eep. Throw in Western, and that's a front-loaded schedule for the Gaels even before the annual Thanksgiving weekend turkey "we" always tend to have vs. the Gee-Gees, which is on Saturday, Oct. 6 by the way. Bring 'em on. Pat Sheahan's boys will be ready, in our way.

... and the Gee-Gees:

Sept. 15 at Western, Sept. 29 at McMaster, Oct. 13 at Laurier: Coach Denis Piché's crew toughest games all appear to be on the road, but are nice and spaced out.

Western is in line to hand the U of T Varsity Blues their 48th consective loss — which would eclipse York's national record — Oct. 13 in London. Knowing how Mustang minds work, they'll probably erect a statue on campus to commemorate the achievement.
