HOCKEY LAST NIGHT: BARNABY JONESIN' TO HANG 'EM UP

Headlines: Matthew Barnaby is eyeing retirement; teenage spectators who threw golf balls at opposing players during a U.S. high school game could face jail time; and was it really one year ago today that Rick Tocchet was charged in Operation Slapshot? Man, does time fly.

Hometown breakdown: The Kingston Frontenacs are in the running to host the 2008 Memorial Cup (smart money would be on Oshawa), but federal funds for that new downtown arena is a bit sketchy; Oh, and the judge in rogue agent David Frost's criminal case has chided the Crown for taking too long to get to trial.

NHL Scoreboard (remember when Toronto-St. Louis meant something back in the good ol' Snorris Division?)

Today's better games: Sabres-Sens, 7; Sharks-Ducks, 10.

Note to readers: The nightly hockey update is in need of curtailing -- it's fun to do, but it's a little indulgent to think an indie blog with "Left Field" in its name can supplant what the cable networks and the major sports sites already do so well. It's time to get back to the fundamentals keeping it light except when we're being serious over some triviality and kicking down doors to shed light on "quixotic sports." (As one reader once put it.) There's that, and paeans to unrequited love for now 20-something actresses whose fame peaked in the late-'90s. Yeah, RLC, yeah you know me.

That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
