RAPTORS: IT'S ABOUT JUMP, NOT JUMPERS...

The shot chart from the Toronto Raptors' 104-86 win over the Philadelphia 76ers which ended just minutes ago is a little troubling.

In the immortal words of Geoffrey S. Smith, slug the ball inside. Only about eight of the Raptors' baskets came inside the key, and against what has amounted to a de facto expansion team since the Allen Iverson trade, they should be getting to the basket instead of being a bunch of jump shooters. Granted, Philly turned to every outgunned team's best friend -- your basic YMCA zone -- but you can still get inside against the zone instead of setting for midrange stuff from 10-12 feet or relying on threes. Especially against Philly. As The Star's Doug Smith jibbed, "Here’s one undisputable fact: (76ers centre) Joe Smith can no more guard Chris Bosh than Doug Smith can."

Figuring out how to adjust and play a zone offence is on the coach, Sam Mitchell, and the point guard, T.J. Ford, has to do a better job initiating the half-court offence. (He is great in the open floor, though.) That's why, deep-down, all that talk about the great job Mitchell is doing goes in one ear and out the other.

To be fair, Joey Graham did get to the foul line 11 times on his way to an 18-point day, so someone was getting inside and drawing contact.

Another Raps note: Mo Peterson got just 11 minutes of court time in an one-sided win. Check out his game log -- he hasn't played major minutes in a victory since that Dec. 17 win over G-State four weeks ago -- he's only playing when the team is struggling and Sam puts out the shock troops. Sportsnet's shot chart from the Toronto Raptors' Barry Davis offered a lament for MoPete today.
