There's some things a team can't do and expect to win, and for Your Toronto Raptors, chief among them would be T.J. Ford failing to score a point and Chris Bosh being held without a rebound until the third quarter in an 101-86 loss to New Jersey Nets last night. Throw in Vince Carter lighting it up like he usually does against Toronto, and it was a long night.
Every so often, the Big 3 of T.J., CB4 and Il Mago (Andrea Bargnani had 22 points and briefly drew the Raptors within eight points with 4:16 to go before Jason Kidd, who played like a 105-lb. weight had been lifted off his shoulders for some reason, drained a three to ice the game) are going to remind us that their average age is 22 years old.
The upshot is that fans shouldn't let the Raptors off the hook; we should expect them to win these games. That said, there were some positives, namely the bench guys playing with some heart to keep it from being a 30-to-35-point blowout. And as you've probably heard, New Jersey's played 21 of their 34 games at home; the Raptors have played 20 of their 35 away from the Air Canada Centre. So this team is in good shape if it wins the next two on road against the Bucks tonight and the Celtics on Friday.
Hey, it wouldn't be Toronto sports if a team in a winter sport started to generate a buzz and then promptly went out and soiled the linen in the first game of a big road trip.
That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
