HOCKEY LAST NIGHT: BOYD, OH BOYD!

What you may have missed as you got to know the band Grand Funk, particularly the bong-rattling bass of Mel Shocker...

Sabres 4 MarLeafs 3: Someone named Erik Westrum dressed for the MarLeafs tonight and they only lost by a goal to the East's best tearm. Doesn't that bring a tear to your eye.

Flames 4 Stars 2: Dustin Boyd gets his first career NHL goal to seal the deal for Calgary, who wins without Jarome Iginla.

Devils 3 Senators 2: Neither the pretty-skating Sens or the new lunch-bucket crew that everyone in Ottawa seems to be talking about showed up. Fear not, Senators fans, you get the Flyers today.

Capitals 3 Thrashers 2 (OT): You just know Annoying Hockey Pool Guy -- you know him, he's the guy at your work who thinks you really want to hear about his hockey pool -- has Alexander Semin on his team.

NHL scoreboard

Today's better games: Devils-Canadiens, 3 p.m.; Flyers-Senators, 3 p.m .; Red Wings-Ducks, 8 p.m.

HOMETOWN BREAKDOWN: FRONTS SILENCE THE "SOUND ATTACK"

Matt Auffrey popped the winner with 7:26 to go, giving our Kingston Frontenacs a 4-3 win in Owen Sound. Let's see if Bruce Cassidy starts goalie Jason Guy again today against his old team, the surging Guelph Storm.

It was a clean sweep for the 613 -- the 67's squashed Barrie 6-2 and Belleville topped Peterborough 4-3 in a shootout, with 17-year-old Petes goalie Trevor Cann only making, oh, about 800 saves again. (Sager's exaggerating again -- it was only 47.)

That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
