Just got the new Canadian university men's basketball coaches poll -- the Carleton Ravens are No. 3 after last week's losses. The Brandon Bobcats have taken over the No. 1 spot for the first time since the '96-97 season, while Montreal's Concordia Stingers are No. 2. The OUA West-leading Windsor Lancers, guided by former Queen's coach Chris Oliver, are No. 4.
Coach Dave DeAveiro's Ottawa Gee-Gees remain No. 9. No luck getting a third OUA East team into the Top 10 -- the last spot went to Acadia -- but the Toronto Varsity Blues and York Lions led the Also Receiving Votes category. So four of the country's top 12 teams play in the OUA East, and it's five out of 15 if you count the Queen's Golden Gaels.
The women's hockey Gee-Gees, fresh off winning four games last weekend, are co-No. 4 with Laurier after their big weekend. Queen's remains No. 6.
