RORY CAMPAIGN LOSING STEAM

Uh-oh. Rory Fitzpatrick has slipped to third among Western Conference defencemen in the NHL all-star balloting.

Phew. Thank god. For a while there, it was looked like a bunch of computer geeks were going to turn the All-Star Game into a complete farce.

Hey, wait a second . . .

The whole vote for Rory movement is a big joke, obviously, but if Cherry and Gretzky want to be really upset about something, how about the fact that a guy like Andrew Raycroft is ahead of the best goalie in the league, Huet, by a factor of two to one ?

Very good point, Double G. I may have to develop a post out of that!

Well, it's an angle that certainly has not been mentionned (from what I've seen) in all the outrage and 'hub-bub' over the Vote for Rory movement. I'm entirely too lazy to do the research, but I'm sure there's been worthy players left on the sidelines every year since fan voting was introduced, yet it took an extreme example for people to notice.

Let's face it - the NHL all-star game is a joke to begin with - it's a lousy facsimile of hockey, with no checking or defence to speak of. Heck, I'm sure Huet is glad the fans are keeping him home for the break.

(But I do love the skills competition ! That's definitely fun to watch, IMO)
