Quick CIS men's b-ball note: The Queen's Golden Gaels beat Trinity Western 90-84 last night in their second game at the Ed Vetrie Memorial Invitational tournament in Victoria, B.C., with Mitch Leger putting up a Bosh-like 28 points and 12 rebounds. More impressively, the Gaels had assists on 29 of their 32 baskets, with Jordan Balaban and Chris Kalesnikoff sharing the team lead with six dimes apiece and Navan's Simon Mitchell recording five to round out a 13-point, eight-rebound night.
With Thursday's near-upset of No. 4 UVic and a win over a respectable Canada West squad (Trinity Western is 7-5 in Can West play), this will end up being a pretty successful trip for Queen's if they can turn in a respectable game today against the No. 2 UBC Thunderbirds.
Carleton's down at a tournament in south Florida, but I haven't been able to find a game score.
Mark Wacyk's CIS Hoops Blog is doing yeoman's work keeping tabs on all the holiday tournaments. I can't say enough good things about that blog.
