AT THE GOOD OL' HOCKEY GAME

It needs to be said: This blog's readers are not getting the quality read that Neate guy should be giving them.

That means it's time to do some re-jigging, some tweaking and some soul-searching, and maybe sneak in a quick game of Madden. You may have noticed this a.m.'s Hockey Last Night update was a little shorter than previous editions.

I enjoy writing that nightly wrap and it guarantees Neil and myself some new content, but it has become a crutch. We can't outscore The Score and out-TSN TSN. This is also not a hockey-only blog (although back in October, Deadspin did anoint Out of Left Field as one of its three favourite hockey blogs, along with usual suspects James Mirtle and Off Wing Opinion).

Last, but not least, it takes time away that would be better spent coming up with original and more unique material, which we feel is our strength.

So the overnight hockey wrap is going to stay, but in a shorter form. Let's face it, most nights the NHL is the same interchangeable guys on the same interchangeable teams. When something big happens, we'll still be there, and we'll be ready come playoff time. Till then, we're going try to better focus our energy.
