You don't need any reminder to know what should be first in your thoughts today, but here's one anyway.
- Hockey: It's Leafs-Canadiens tonight.
- NFL: It's not a stretch to say that tomorrow against the Packers at home is an unofficial referendum on Brad Childress as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings
- I'm kicking myself now, since when I wrote my Confessions of an ex-U.S. college football fan six weeks back, I said my interest might return if I found a team "from a mid-major conference, a real university, I found a team a Blue State, to cheer for. Rutgers looks awfully appealing." (Italics mine)
Now Rutgers is 9-0 and who isn't cheering for them to go undefeated and prove once and for all that BCS should stand for the Bowl Counterfeit Series? If they do go 12-0, they'll still get sent to some minor bowl game, like Utah in 2004. - In collegiate football north of the border, how's that Concordia pick working out for you, Sager? Uh, not so good. Last I checked, Laval led 24-3 late in the first half and the Concordia QB, Scott Syvret, was being helped off the field after a late hit by Laval's Eric Maranda. By the way, Nic Bisaillon, the receiver whom Bizz hyped before the game, scored the first two touchdowns, one receiving, one rushing.
- Jayna Hefford, Kingston's own, now has 100 career goals for Team Canada after getting three last night in an 8-1 win romp over the Finns at the Four Nations Cup.
HOMETOWN BREAKDOWN
Goalie Jason Guy was on his game early when the Kingston Frontenacs were giving up 17 of the game's first 23 shots, buying time for his teammates to get untracked and buried the Mississauga Ice Dogs 6-0 last night. Could be the type of win the Frontenacs need to get their season turned around.
The Fronts' other goalie, Daryl Borden, is out for at least a month, so Kingston's brought in an American, Aaron Rock. He becomes, by unofficial count, the fifth goalie to already dress in a game for Kingston this year.
Off to work; the rest of you enjoy your Saturday. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
