HOCKEY LAST NIGHT: EDMONTON LEFT TO SING THE BLUES

Well, I didn't know all of that... so, sorry.

Blues 5 Oilers 3: For Edmonton, this is the kind of game you want to play on the road, on a Sunday afternoon, both in the meat of the NFL season and the day of the division finals in the CFL. It meant most Oilers fans were watching football as the Oilers lost to the gadawful Blues, which we're fairly indifferent to, although I welcome any chance to give some pub to Kingston's Jay McClement (pictured, left), who scored a goal for St. Louis. Hey, Don Cherry know that there's a guy in the NHL from Kingston who wears a visor?

(Anaheim centre Andy McDonald, who also has Kingston-area ties, also wears a visor.)

Ducks 3 Wild 2: Anaheim's never going to lose another game in regulation until some time after Christmas. Uh, please don't take that seriously.

Blackhawks 1 Blue Jackets 0: Brian Boucher finally gets his first win for Chicago by stopping all 28 Columbus shots. Boucher came in 0-7-1 on the year -- bad, but nowhere near Michel Belhumeur's 0-24-3 record with the '74-75 Capitals.

Is that an optical illusion, or are the Hawks really on a 2-0-1 mini-roll?

HOMETOWN BREAKDOWN

Not sure what to make of the Kingston Frontenacs' 4-3 overtime loss to the Kitchener Rangers, a top team in the Ontario Hockey League's Western Conference. On one hand, taking five out of six points on a busy weekend isn't half-bad, but the Fronts let it slip away, giving up power-play goals to Kitchener's Justin Avezedo and Yannick Weber in the final minute of regulation and in overtime. Good teams should find ways to pull out those games, even when they're tired. Case in point: It was the third road win in three days for Kitchener -- and all three were one-goal games.

Talk about having your day ruined: Bobby Hughes figured in all three Kingston goals, but was in the penalty box when Weber scored the game-winner.

That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
