VARIOUS ACCESSORIES: HEY, RAPTORS WIN

  • From the sounds of Toronto Star hoops scribe Doug Smith's quarter-by-quarter reports from last night's 34-point Raptors exhibition win over Maccabi Tel Aviv, P.J. Tucker is going to find a place in their rotation. Joey Graham, we hardly knew ye...

Another observation from Smith: "Maccabi scored 63 points in a game against Cleveland on Tuesday. The 55 in a half against Toronto is somewhat an indictment of Toronto’s defence." Hey, just like the Phoenix Suns, but with no Steve Nash! (Some day, T.J. Ford, some day.)

By the way, when it comes to beat writers and blogs, Raptors fans may be the best served among Toronto's three major teams, between Star's Smith and Scott Carefoot at RaptorBlog. So they've got that goin' for them, which is nice.
  • The Battle of Eastern Ontario (doesn't have quite the same ring to it) resumes tonight: the Kingston Frontenacs try to end a four-game winless streak against the Ottawa 67's at the Civic Centre. Some of us have day jobs to go to, alas.
  • CIS football picks Incidentially, British Columbia running back Chris Ciezki, who has been getting some Hec Crighton Trophy hype around here, went off for 300-plus yards and five TDs on Wednesday night against hapless Simon Fraser. Not to be all picayune, but this is the annoying part of being a CIS fan: Ciezki rushing for 328 yards against a very bad Simon Fraser team gets more attention from the media than gaining half that total in a game where his team actually needed that kind of production.

Ultimately, the end kind of justifies the means: That outburst upped Ciezki's per-game average to 161.8 and he now leads the CIS in scoring, so his stats look a lot more Hec-worthy. Oh, and he's got a game on Sunday against another winless team, Calgary, to do some more stat-padding.

Back with more later. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
