"YOU'RE WITH ME, LEATHER" IS NOW OFFICIALLY DATED

Moments ago, after Brad Smith caught his third touchdown pass of the game to put the Queen's Golden Gaels up 24-10 over Guelph early in the third quarter, CFRC's play-by-play man dropped a "You're With Me, Leather" reference.

(UPDATE, 4:15 p.m. Smith just caught a fourth touchdown pass... and the play-by-play guy dropped a "You're With Me, Leather" again. Something suggests this was not a spontaneous catchphrase.)

That must have been some halftime speech Gaels coach Pat Sheahan delivered. Queen scored 10 points in the quarter's first five minutes, kicking a field goal, then recovering a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and scoring one play later. Smith and Danny Brannagan have hooked up on all three -- make that four -- Gaels touchdowns.

(Smith has 182 yards in three quarters. What is it about Guelph and fifth-year Queen's receivers? It was at Guelph where James MacLean had his record 377-yard day on Sept. 15, 2001.)

As for the Ottawa Gee-Gees, Josh Sacobie just completed a touchdown pass to Matt Edgeworth for the first touchdown of the game, and they're now losing just 12-10 to the Laurier Golden Hawks midway through the third quarter.
