SOME MONDAY MUSINGS

A little bit softer now ...

Jays-Texas Rangers outlook. Tonight is their best bet, but it would be good to eke out one win from pitching Shawn Marcum and Casey Janssen back-to-back nights, which is a necessity since the rotation has been set up to have the big guns face the Evil Empire this weekend.

Tonight: John Koronka (6-5, 4.63, 1.39 WHIP) vs. Theodore Edward Lilly (8-8, 4.07, 1.49 WHIP). In a matchup of lefty pitchers, the Jays need seven strong from Lilly after playing two extra-inning games in a row. Lilly pitched decently against Texas right before the All-Star Break, but came out, since he'd inevitably reached 100 pitches by the end of the sixth inning. The Jays can ill-afford to have that happening after the weekend the bullpen just had.

Tuesday: Vicente Padilla (9-5, 4.25, 1.33 WHIP) vs. Shawn Marcum (0-0, 7.45, 2.48 WHIP). Since the Jays are running out a triple-A pitcher, it may be appropriate for Ottawa-area Jays fans to watch the triple-A Lynx -- who are having 25-cent hot dog night.

Wednesday: Kevin Millwood (9-5, 4.66, 1.41 WHIP) vs. Casey Janssen (6-8, 4.72, 1.29 WHIP). Pass until Janssen shows he hasn't hit the rookie wall halfway through the season.

OTHER BUSINESS
  • Great minds must think alike (then again, so do small ones). Bill Simmons is picking an English Premiership team and will announce his pick Wednesday. Yours truly is doing the exact same thing, albeit informally and without input from thousands of readers.
  • Ever heard of a little thing called the Internet? Here's video from the CBC archive of a 1993 report on this new thing called the "Internet" that is "already being used by 15 million people worldwide to chat or do important research." Important research? Is that they called "it" back then?
  • Those Damn Vikings made for an interesting trip down memory lane.

That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
