THE ENVELOPE PLEASE . . . IT'S BARGNANI

Well, there you have it. The Toronto Raptors, as expected, have taken Andrea Bargnani with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft. May he be the league's first great Italian player.

There will be second-guessing about how serious it was about the Portland Trail Blazers offering the No. 4 and No. 7 picks (the latter picked up in a trade with Boston earlier) to the Raptors for No. 1 -- and whether or not Bargnani would have been there for them at No. 4.

LaMarcus Aldridge went No. 2 to Chicago and the Charlotte Bobcats took Adam Morrison with the No. 3 choice. Tyrus Thomas goes to the Jail Blazers at No. 4.

OTHER BUSINESS
  • No surprise here. Patrick Roy is going to the Hockey Hall of Fame. There's probably shock and disbelief among Leafs Nation that the greatest player of all time, number 93 Dougie Gilmour (note: belief only shared by residents of Woodbridge), didn't get in on the first try. Dick Duff, the other player who's being inducted, has been waiting a long time, and there's a backlog of unjustly neglected players. How long it has it been for Duff? He won two Cups with the Leafs. That's how long.
  • Five Deadspin commenters have started a football blog called Kissing Suzy Kolber that gives this promise:

There will be no analysis. Any mention of statistics to prove that a certain team is "better" than another will be countered with stats like this: 98% of assholes use stats to make a pointless argument. The only thing that we offer is the funny.

Do you even need to ask if this is going on the blogroll?
