Deadspin has introduced a daily NHL closer to go along with the ones its does for baseball and the NBA. It's a proud day for the hockey blogosphere.
Hey, the first edition noted that the Blue Jackets forward Manny Malhotra played his 500th career NHL game. That might not mean a lot to you, or many people outside Columbus (or, aside from the Manny-Acs, many people inside Columbus), but Malhotra is the first Indo-Canadian player to do so. That's certainly noteworthy.
(Much obliged to Deadspin eds. Rick Chandler and Will Leitch for the link-up yesterday. It very well might have been a single-day record for traffic.)
Malhotra has carved out a nice role for himself as a checking forward and role player. 500 NHL games is a special accomplishment for any player. He was, however, supposed to be more like Mike Fisher when he came into the league, i.e. a gritty guy who also has some scoring touch, but it didn't quite work out that way.
ReplyDeleteI loved Alec Baldwin's rant in Glengarry Glen Ross also. (My ABC is "Always Be Covering", something I have been unable to do in my bragging-rights-only NFL pool this year.) He may not be the most likeable guy in the world off the screen, but he is a hell of an actor in the right roles.
