That couldn't be further from the truth.

If cement-footed Billy Irwin was able to earn two title shots in his career fighting under the Canadian flag, then Lennox Lewis would've had little problem earning his.

As for boxing's track record at the box office in this country, not only does Molitor consistently sell out Casino Rama's venue, but the likes of Lucien Bute, Jean Pascal, Eric Lucas, and the Hiltons have been packing the Molson Centre ever since it was built.

I'm still not clear, though, where Canada "turned its back" on Lewis. If you want to argue that Canada didn't hold the same earning power that the UK did, fine. But don't act like it was perceived cold shoulder on Canada's part that sent Lewis packing. Even the man himself has expressed a degree of debt towards Canada: that's why he fought under the maple leaf in the olympics. He felt he at least owed this country that much.Yes Im Peter Inghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08335518884725034754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16538424.post-41501774772117157482008-05-13T16:44:00.000-04:002008-05-13T16:44:00.000-04:00Like IBF super bantamweight champion Steve Molitor...Like IBF super bantamweight champion Steve Molitor, who not only fights as a Canadian, but also insists on fighting in Canada?

And, speak for yourself. Go ahead and name a Canadian fighter who went ANYWHERE on the world stage. Tell me the last time a fight involving a Canadian played to a sold-out crowd? Any of us would've done the same thing if we felt we weren't getting a fair shake from our own country. I'm not sure Lewis would've even gotten a title shot had he remained in this country. Good for him!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
