So, I typically would rotate between using Golden Gaels, and just Gaels--it's a flow thing. I actually got my start covering WLU, so I've had a lot of practice at it.

An all gold t-shirt protest at homecoming would be appropriate. Find someone--a Queen's alum preferably--that will sell you cheap t-shirts (we got the Sack the CSAs for about $4/each and sell them cheap--say $5/each) just off campus.

"My Queen's is Golden" would be my suggestion for the front.

How about..."It's about the tradition, stupid" on the back....maybe not (it's late), but something like that. This will be a good learning season for the program as a whole but in terms of results, likely not what we in the Laurier faithful would like to see. However that being said Queen's IS a formidable team this year, and regardless of experience this was going to be a very tough game!

To the anon. that says that Laurier might not be all to exciting a game when they visit the Capital, have to ask what happened this week with the lowly MAC team keeping Ottawa so close? My style's never really been to include the Golden in Journal articles just because of length, so the change doesn't affect my writing very much. Our editorial board put out an editorial last week criticizing the name change, so it's not like we're just blindly falling in line either, but 99 out of 100 times, just using "Gaels" works better for us. I'm not a fan of the name change, and I wish they would have kept the Golden for official purposes and box scores, but that's no reason for me to go and insert it somewhere I wouldn't have used it before.Andrew Bucholtzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14156615450275929751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16538424.post-858272017376402192008-09-14T22:55:00.000-04:002008-09-14T22:55:00.000-04:00Andrew - I was actually talking about the Whig. Tim's right that the game wasn't as close as the score suggests, but still, a 31-20 loss to Western is nothing to sneeze at, especially when you look at Western's 49-3 win over Waterloo this week. My point was that Laurier may not be in the real upper echelon any more, but their first two games suggested otherwise. Also, my media outlet didn't "cow-tow" (sic: you're looking for kowtow) to the Athletics Department: we reported on the change, and we have always primarily used Gaels or Queen's in our stories anyway, as it saves space (useful when you use Gaels about 10 times or so). I don't like the change, and you're welcome to carry on your quixotic tilt at it, but I'm not going to waste space on it that could be put to better use covering Queen's sports.Andrew Bucholtzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14156615450275929751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16538424.post-91163635404130683482008-09-14T12:40:00.000-04:002008-09-14T12:40:00.000-04:00@ Tyler: Youth condemns, maturity condones, but go...@ Tyler: Youth condemns, maturity condones, but good on ya for drawing a line in the sand on this one.

Gaels is not the preferred nomenclature.
